redbox

November 16, 2009

redbox is a kiosk that allows you to rent dvd’s for $1.00 a night plus tax.  take that, blockbuster!

i used to be a faithful blockbuster renter.   i have been a rewards member (an additional $10/year) and a subscriber to blockbuster online.  i’ll admit, the abilities to keep the movies for several weeks was a great perk, but the almost $5.00 per movie was, for me, a greater con.  typically, i rent several movies at a time and would usually leave blockbuster with $20.00 worth of dvds. and for the most part, i wasn’t consistent month by month with renting and i could go two months without watching a rental. it just seemed like too much money wasted for me.

then i found a redbox conveniently located in my grocery store…which happens to be about 15 minutes closer to me than blockbuster and not completely out of the way.  you can reserve dvds online, drop off dvds at any redbox location, and there are several websites that have codes you can use to get free rentals  (like this one: http://www.insideredbox.com/redbox-codes/).  i rented three movies tonight and i had two codes to use.  i ended up renting three movies for $1.09!  the only downside is that they must be returned by 9:00 pm the following night, but i think it’s totally worth it to save so much money.

if you plan on spending any time in the kitchen, good kitchen knives are a definite must.  about six years ago, i was a firm believer that henkels was THE knife to be using.  that changed when I held a shun in my hand.  the shun ken onion 8″ chef’s knife is by far the best knife i have ever used.  i love the look and feel of this one.   i love how the razor sharp blade cuts through potatoes like butter.  it may look heavy, but it is actually quite lightweight and the handle really fits my hand which really helps control the knife when i’m chopping. i haven’t felt any fatigue using this knife like i have in the past with my henkels chef’s knife.

honestly, there isn’t enough i can say about this knife.  it’s worth every penny.

meatloaf cupcakes from finefuriouslife.com

regular cupcakes are cool, but meatloaf cupcakes [from finefuriouslife.com] are cooler. one look at these and you’ll never want your meatloaf in a loaf ever again.

even the pickiest eater could be persuaded to give this a try. i mean, how could you not want to try this? it’s like dessert for dinner, but, er… not really. it gives a whole new meaning to playing with your food!

this would be a great idea for a birthday party, an april fool’s dinner, or really just anywhere you would serve different types of finger food.
